The Circles Program is a national campaign/program that gathers people who are motivated to move out of poverty and matches them with middle to high-income volunteers who provide emotional and community support while encouraging Circle Leaders on their journey.
Through training and weekly meetings, Circle Leaders (participants) set goals based on their unique needs and skills. Together with supportive volunteers called Circle Allies, they cultivate an intentional friendship across socioeconomic class and create a plan to achieve economic stability. The Circle Allies, in turn learn about the realities and barriers that exist for individuals and families in poverty.
As Circle Leaders make strides toward stability, they work together with the support of the whole Circles Community to raise awareness of their lived experiences as well as identify and eliminate obstacles that perpetuate poverty.
BAJC provides training, speakers, and community events with the purpose of educating the public about poverty in Johnson County. This can look different depending on the audience, but the goal of educating the public about poverty remains.
